Looseness

There exist two types of looseness: rotating and structural looseness

Rotating Looseness

Rotating looseness is caused by excessive clearance between rotating and stationary elements of the machine such as in a bearing..
It can occur due to wear in a bearing. You first detect other bearing wear sysmtoms, followed by bearing looseness.

Structural Looseness

Scructural looseness is a looseness between two normally stationary parts, such as a foot and a foundation or a bearing housing and a machine.
It will increase the 1X vibration component in de the direction of least stiffness. This is usually the horizontal direction, but it depends on the physical layout of the machine.
