Misalignment
When the centerlines of coupled shafts do not concur, you get a misalignment.
There exist three types of misalignment:

If the centerlines of the two shafts are parallel (but do not concur), you have parallel misalignment |

Angular misalignment occurs when the two shaft centerline meet at a certain point but are not parallel |

Most of the time, you have a combination of the two misalignements mentioned above, called combined misalignment |
Misalignment is typically caused by:
- motors or pumps that are assembled incaccurately
- relative position of components shifting after mounting
- Soft-food (machine shifts when bolts are tightened)
