Misalignment

When the centerlines of coupled shafts do not concur, you get a misalignment.

There exist three types of misalignment:

misalign1

If the centerlines of the two shafts are parallel (but do not concur), you have parallel misalignment

misalign2 Angular misalignment occurs when  the two shaft centerline meet at a certain point but are not parallel
misalign3 Most of the time, you have a combination of the two misalignements mentioned above, called combined misalignment

Misalignment is typically caused by:
  • motors or pumps that are assembled incaccurately
  • relative position of components shifting after mounting
  • Soft-food (machine shifts when bolts are tightened)
